Tobacco Control is a specialist Section of the APSR Environmental & Occupational Health and Epidemiology Assembly, and led by Dr ().

Mission:

Smoking is the leading preventable cause of chronic lung disease. More than 600 million adults and children in the APSR region use tobacco products every day. In addition, our region produces more than half of the world’s tobacco. The Tobacco Control Section of the APSR Environmental & Occupational Health and Epidemiology Assembly was established in 2024. The Tobacco Control Section aims to reduce the devastating burden of disease caused by tobacco and related products. We will achieve this by enhancing the expertise of APSR members in all aspects of smoking and other nicotine products including clinical practice, research, policy and advocacy.

Interests:

  • Best clinical practice for tobacco and related product cessation (individual-level and models of care)
  • Policy and advocacy (local, national and international)
  • Tobacco and related product research including Emerging nicotine products including electronic cigarettes

Who should join:

The Tobacco Control Section is multidisciplinary, and fosters diversity beyond professional groupings. We welcome all APSR members for the opportunity to build networks, share ideas, learn from each other, build research and clinical collaborations, and work with sister societies and organisations on international projects.
