Call for Abstracts

The Scientific Committee welcomes the submission of abstracts on a wide variety of respiratory and related topics. Accepted abstracts will be published in a dedicated supplementary issue of Respirology, the official journal of the APSR, which will be distributed to the delegates at the Congress. The Committee reserves the right to reject abstracts and edit the language. Authors will be notified of the decision by E-mail no later than the end of August 2021.

How to Submit

Abstracts must be original and submitted in English using exclusively the on-line system of this web page. Please click “Online Abstract Submission” button at the end of this guideline (the bottom of page)*** and follow the instructions on the submission form.

There is no limitation on how many abstracts can be submitted by a single author.
Abstracts must be submitted online. Submissions via fax, email, post, etc., will NOT be considered.
It is the responsibility of the presenting author to ensure that all authors have given their consent to be listed as co-author for the submitted abstract.
- Authorship and author order should be agreed by all authors.
- The presenting author’s name should appear on the author list.
Authors must declare that the material in the presentation is original and that it will not be published in any publication or presented elsewhere before the APSR Congress 2021.
Authors are required to complete a Declaration of Conflict of Interest. Abstracts supported in whole or in part by tobacco or tobacco-related industry will not be accepted.
Presenting authors must specify their own sponsoring entity in addition to that of all co-authors.
Authors must choose one category from the following:
- Clinical Respiratory Medicine
- Cell and Molecular Biology
- Clinical Allergy and Immunology
- Environmental & Occupational Health and Epidemiology
- Respiratory Infections (non-tuberculous)
- Tuberculosis
- COPD
- Lung Cancer
- Asthma
- Respiratory Neurobiology and Sleep
- Critical Care Medicine
- Bronchoscopy and Interventional Techniques
- Paediatric Lung Disease
- Respiratory Structure and Function
- Pulmonary Circulation
- Interstitial Lung Disease
Authors may request their preferred presentation method as oral or poster or either. Please be reminded that the Scientific Programme Committee will take the request into consideration but will ultimately decide which method will be allocated to the abstract.
ONLY first authors who can present the abstract in person at the Congress are eligible to apply for any awards.
Please check the accuracy of all contents before submitting your abstract. For abstracts that are accepted for presentation, the contents, including names of authors, will be published as they appear in the submitted abstract, in a supplement of Respirology.

Format and Content

Language: Abstracts must be in English.
Authors:
- Authors’ names should be in initial capital/lower case, not all capitals, not all lowercase.
  Example： John Smith
- Post nominal is not required.
- If there are more than 20 authors, download the form for Abstract with more than 20 authors and send it to congress@theapsr.org by the abstract submission deadline. (The details are given in the online submission form)
Title: The abstract title should be less than 25 words, in initial capital/lower case (not all capitals).
Example： The solution to air pollution
Abstract:
- The abstract must be less than 250 words (title, author information, tables and images are excluded from the word count)
- The abstract must have the following sub-headings: Background and Aims, Methods, Results and Conclusions.
- Abbreviations must be defined in parentheses on first mention in the text.
References: References are discouraged and should be limited to THREE. References should be cited using superscript Arabic numerals in the order in which they first appear in the text and should follow the reference style of Respirology

Acknowledgements/Disclosure statement: Any Acknowledgements or Disclosure Statements can be listed briefly at the end of the abstract.
Case report: A case report should describe only a single case and contain a description of the actual case, and a discussion of the novelty and importance of the specific case.
Systematic Review and meta-analysis can be submitted.
A literature review abstract can NOT be submitted.
Duplicate abstracts will not be accepted.

Figures

A maximum of 1 table OR 1 figure can be included per abstract in JPG or TIF format only. The file extension should be .jpg / .jpeg/ .tif/ .tiff
When including a table, it is recommended to save the table as an image before uploading it.
The recommended image size for optimal resolution is:
- The abstract must be less than 250 words (title, author information, tables and images are excluded fTables: up to 5 columns x 8 rows
- Graphics: a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and a minimum width of 169 mm
The maximum file size cannot exceed 20 MB
A filename should not contain any non-alphanumeric characters.

Notification and Publication

ONLY the presenting author will receive correspondence and confirmation of presentation, which will be sent by email. The presenting author is responsible for informing all co-authors about the status of their submitted abstract.
Presenting authors will be notified of the status of their abstract, session formats, and scheduling of presentations in the middle of August 2020. [sic]
The following may result in losing eligibility for presenting at the Congress.
- No reply to the acceptance letter
- No registration of a presenting author for the Congress before their “cutoff” date (The cutoff date will be provided in the acceptance letter)
Only abstracts accepted and presented during the Congress will be published in a supplement of Respirology, known as the Abstract Book.
Authors of accepted abstracts are expected to comply with the ethical considerations outlined in Respirology’s Author Guidelines.

Changes and withdrawals

A submitted abstract can be edited at any time until the abstract submission deadline. Please log in to the online abstract submission platform and click “Edit” to make changes to the submitted abstract.
A submitted abstract can be withdrawn at any time until the abstract submission deadline. Please log in to the online abstract submission platform and click “withdraw” to withdraw your abstract.
If your abstract is accepted for presentation but requires withdrawal, please contact apsr2021-abs@coac.co.jp

Additional Information

All abstracts are evaluated anonymously by the relevant Assembly leaders based on the following 3 main criteria (on a scale from 1 to 5):
- Originality
- Scientific Validity
- Clinical Impact
The Scientific Committee reserves the right to accept or reject an abstract

Abstract Presentation

In response to the current travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the abstract presentation (oral/poster) session of APSR 2021 will be conducted online only. Further information on how to present online will be provided directly to the presenting author and will also posted on this website accordingly.
