I am a visiting paediatric respiratory physician from Thailand coming to Brisbane in September 2019. I had been granted with APSR Short-Term Research/Training Scholarship for 6 months starting from January 2020.

Being a part of Cough, Asthma & Airways Research Group at Centre for Children’s Health Research for research training is a wonderful experience. I have learnt how to develop a research project at the level of a PhD degree - include ethics submission, development of case report form, database management, statistical analysis and manuscript preparation.

I have been working on the project studying the impact of lung function testing (spirometry) on clinical decision making and quality of life in children. The project aims to recruit about 100 participants. Unfortunately, the project was halted for a while due to COVID-19, but I will be staying back to complete the study as per the submission.

During the training, I also had an opportunity to participate in clinical works and academic activities at Queensland Children’s Hospital. Queensland Children’s Hospital is a centre of excellence in paediatric flexible bronchoscopy, chest imaging and various lung function tests. The knowledge and skills I acquired are priceless for my professional development and certainly helpful in my paediatric respiratory and sleep medicine practice.

I deeply appreciate the kindness and sincerity of all research and clinical staff here. Everyone is so considerate and supportive, so I could settle in the new country in a surprisingly short time and deal with new challenges in the training. Finally, I would like to thank APSR so much for awarding me the precious scholarship which greatly assists in broadening the horizons of
