The Forum of International Respiratory Societies highlights five major lung diseases, the "Big 5", which include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), acute lower respiratory tract infections, lung cancer and tuberculosis. At the APSR 2022 Congress in Seoul, Republic of Korea, a workshop was held which brought together representatives from the APSR, Union APR, WHO SEARO and WHO WPRO to address the "Big 5" and to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) the WHO aims for.
The input was sought from successful groups that would address issues relating to Asthma, COPD, Lung Cancer, Tuberculosis and non-TB infections (the "Big 5"), with a focus on broad applicability to lower-middle income countries.
